Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures Sponsor, Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative Learn about the referendum that created a Missouri State Constitutional Amendment. Passed by a majority vote in the November general election, this guarantees that stem cell research, treatments, therapies and cures will be legal and available in Missouri to the full extent allowed by federal law. Notably, the measure also provides oversight and public information access, specifies legal safeguards and ethical guidelines including the ban of human reproductive cloning as well as strict penalties for violations. The Coalition’s web site includes a wealth of general stem cell information and their remarkable “who’s who” endorsement list of individuals, organizations, medical practitioners, Nobel Prize winners, associations and institutions. The Coalition has membership of over 60,000 Missourians, the largest ever assembled for a ballot initiative in the state. |

When Bush announced his limitations in 2001, it was believed that more than 60 lines were available. Unfortunately, the NIH reports that due to contamination, only 10 lines or so retain sufficient purity for clinical research. Still, the NIH provides a wealth of information. (This is also where many researchers order their embryonic stem cell material.) |
